Hi,

It's great to hear that you've been limiting yourself of developer debt. It's amazing how fast it can sneak up on you if you're not paying attention!

And thank you for the compliment on this blog, it's very appreciated! It's always great to get positive feedback, and to know that others are appreciating it. Thank you.

Hey Steph,

Much wisdom here... one thing I've found since starting my own business as a microISV is choosing to develop in Ruby on Rails has really helped the "developer debt" situation.

This is mainly because even when I'm learning new things about Rails, it's still opinionated about how I code. Because it forces me to separate my code into smaller bits, I can go into more manageable developer debt.

For example, when adding a new feature in a hurry, most of my developer debt will exist only a couple of methods, one database migration that can easily be migrated to something better later, maybe a couple of models, and some views. Because Rails forces me to separate these components, I can slowly pay off my developer debt as development continues piece by piece.

Keep writing Steph, your blog is a great read.

Cheers, Dan
