You mentioned Aaron Wall's SEO Book which it seems he doesn't offer now...instead he has a subscription web site. Have you become an Aaron Wall subscriber? Is it worth the fees?

[...] SEO You Should Always Do - I think I’ve done most of these, after reading this article. Another good list of actionable advice. The author of this article (Stephane) also wrote an ebook about increasing traffic to your website. I found it helpful, although perhaps he chose a bit too much breadth of coverage at the expense of depth on any particular topic. But it only cost me $15, and at that price I figured if I learn anything that gets me even one extra sale, it will have paid for itself many times over. [...]

Very good info! When it is realistic to do so, I apply about 75% of this list to sites I optimize. Otherwise, I would agree also on your last point of link building being an important part of the entire process. I have definately found that if you take a website that has been around a few years, optimize it with basic tactics such as you described, and add it to a few powerful directories, you'll be on page 1 in google for half of your target list within 60 days or so! :-)

In all honesty, why wouldn't you want to register. Especially if they have a free offering?

These are rich tools that are worth it. I generally buy the paid subscriptions since I use some of their other tools. But if you don't want to go that far, registering for what they give you is very likely worth it.

PS: If they didn't require you to register, I can only imagine the number of scripts that would be trying to steal their data. Nevermind that they couldn't offer you some of the advance tools they do when you have an account to assign things to.

Hi Chantal,

Yes you can use WordTracker's free version (<a href="http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/" rel="nofollow">http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/</a>). However I found the paid versions worth it if you're going to get serious about it. They provide more detailed information that pays for itself.

Great article. I tried to use the Wordtraker and the Wordz but both require registration. Do you know of one that is not fee based? I used to use Overture key word selector but they no longer offer it.
